Regulatory Review A Breath Of Fresh Air
In all the years that this magazine has been in existence, the single common thread of continuity is the ongoing, and usually justified, industry disenchantment with those who are our regulators.
The old DCA plodded along without too much argument in the good ol’ days when a technological breakthrough was represented by a vacuum tube that lasted longer than a hundred hours. It was unfortunately followed in the days of Gough Whitlam with a major review of how aviation was administered and consequently a sea swell of change erupted that in hindsight did little for either the regulator, the public, or the industry that made it all possible. This era of turmoil extends to this day despite never ending reviews and reorganisations, name changes and what through the ‘eighties ultimately led to the creation of the CAA and more latterly CASA.
