Board of Inquiry Analysing Black Hawk Crash
The Army has established a Military Board of Inquiry into the Townsville Army Black Hawk midair collision on June 12 in which 18 aircrew and SAS soldiers were killed and another 10 were injured.
The two helicopters which collided were the lead aircraft in a flight of six conducting an SAS anti-terrorist exercise in which the helicopters were flying with their anti-collision lights off and the flight crews were using night vision goggles. The helicopters were flying at about 150ft and 60 to 85kt (110 to 160km/h) when they hit.
