Boeing has built 5,000 jet airliners in less than 29 years, a figure unmatched by any other aircraft manufacturer. The 5,000th aircraft was a KLM 737-300 rolled out at a ceremony on August 17. Since the first Boeing jetliner, a 707-120, was rolled out on October 28, 1957, an average of 14 aircraft a month have rolled off the Seattle, Renton, and Everett assembly lines.
The British Aerospace EAP fighter technology demonstrator made its first flight from Warton on August 8. During the one-hour flight, the EAP exceeded Mach 1.
