In Australian Service — BAe 146

British Aerospace 146

Offering a combination of strong environmental credentials, coupled with comfort and jet speed, the BAe146 has established itself as an important part of Australia’s airline transport system.

From many viewpoints the British Aerospace 146 family is unique. The high wing, four engine, super quiet British built jet has a combination of features that for a long time were unmatched elsewhere. With a healthy order book it is the most successful British jet airliner yet built.

The go-ahead for the Hawker Siddeley HS.146 was announced on August 19 1973. The 70 to 100 seat short haul airliner program was launched as a venture jointly financed by Hawker Siddeley and the UK Government. This was the culmination of design studies which were commenced by the de Havilland Aircraft Company in 1959 for a feeder line transport aircraft.
