Qantas's 747-200s have been undergoing a weight loss program of sorts recently. The 747-200s' basic weight has been reduced by an impressive 12 tonnes (from 182t to 170t) as they are fitted with the new two class interior and improved galleys. Two of Qantas's five 747-200s remain fitted with the original underfloor galley, VH-EBS was undergoing conversion at ASTAAS at Avalon in early July, and VH-EBR was due to undergo conversion in August prior to delivery to Air Pacific on a two year lease. Aus/Nz Sam Nears Reality
The Australian and New Zealand transport ministers have agreed upon the introduction of a common domestic aviation market in Australasia from November 1 this year, paving the way for NZ carriers to fly domestically in Australia, and Australian airlines to fly domestically in New Zealand.
The agreement was reached following ministerial discussions in early July, with a commitment for more high level discussions in August to resolve technical issues such as immigration.
