Concern Over Three-Year JORN Delay

The $1.1bn Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) which is running three years late has been criticised in a damming Australian National Audit Office report. The unsatisfactory performance of the high tech project has degenerated into something of a farce. So much so that the major prime contractor, Telstra, and the major subcontractor, GEC-Marconi, are believed to have been told in no uncertain terms to get a grip on the project and start spending their own money to get it to meet the capabilities they pledged to provide in the contract

Unfortunately Telstra and GEC-Marconi, by all reports, have not been hitting it off for some time. A joint venture company was to be formed to focus on the JORN Project, and a General Manager was even named early last year. But the joint venture did not proceed.
