A Better Way to Fight the Fires?
January’s devastating bushfires throughout NSW, and in particular in and around Sydney, have left a lot of people contemplating the most effective means of combating future outbreaks of what must surely be this nation’s most damaging onslaught by mother nature.
Despite whatever comes out in terms of a more serious effort towards future cool season backburning and forest undergrowth management, the fact remains that Australia’s forests cover an enormous area by any measure and fires such as those which ravaged NSW for more than a week will most certainly occur at regular intervals.
