At presstime, the CS/RO special mission F27, VH-CAT (now owned by Australian Flight Test Services), was busy performing a series of atmospheric tests in the Western Pacific between Australia and Japan. The purpose of the research flights are to analyse the behaviour of atmospheric particles and to observe climatic processes such as air movement and cloud formation in addition to assessing the influence of human activity on the region. The mission involves five CS/RO scientists and ports covered _ including Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, PNG, Micronesia and Japan. VH-CAT undertook similar airborne sampling missions last winter off southern Australia. (Mark Hoffmann)
