United Airlines has recently taken delivery of the first of 50 Airbus A320s it has on order. The landmark order (50 + 50) was the first United has placed with the European consortium. While America West, Northwest and Air Canada all operate A320s in North America, United's order was the single largest for the A320 (and indeed for any Airbus product). The first A320 is pictured here in United's new livery which is progressively being applied fleet-wide. (Airbus)

Additional a300s for Qantas?
Qantas management is examining a proposal from Airbus Industrie that they lease additional A300B4 twinjets.
Logic for the proposal stems from the fact that Qantas’s domestic services are suffering from a lack of a proper first class cabin on the airline’s Boeing 767s. AA has heard that it is not uncommon now for first class frequent flyers to check with the airline prior to booking a long haul domestic sector to ensure that the aircraft isn’t a 767. If it is then quite often the passenger will choose Ansett-obviously a nightmare that Qantas doesn’t need right now when it is trying desperately to drag its domestic uplift back up to the point where it can once again challenge Ansett.
