Strategic Airlines takes off
It is undoubtedly a bold move, launching a new airline during an economic downturn, especially when the failures of MacAir, SkyAirWorld and OzJet are fresh in the memory, but Strategic Airlines is undeterred as it seeks to carve out a niche in the charter, wetleasing and secondary level RPT markets.
The Strategic name is already known for its Australian Defence Force contract to provide an Airbus A330, which it currently leases from Portuguese operator Hi Fly, for strategic lift of personnel and equipment, predominantly between Australia and the Middle East. Strategic Aviation has held this contract for some years now, and has also provided aircraft charter brokerage services to the ADF and other customers, but its move to branch out into directly operating its own aircraft is an ambitious one.
