For any island nation protection of its maritime approaches is a cornerstone of national security and a prerequisite to the defence of its sovereignty.
The RAAF’s Number 92 Wing, headquartered at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia provides the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with a broad spectrum of long-range maritime patrol and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). It does so using two squadrons of AP-3C Orions (10 and 11 Squadrons), an operational conversion unit – 292SQN – and 5. Flight and its Israeli-made Heron UAVs, recently transferred from 82WG.
