On September 3 India approved the acquisition of 66 BAE Hawks to satisfy the long-standing Indian Air Force (IAF) requirement for its advanced jet trainer after almost 20 years of investigations. All 66 aircraft will be delivered within six years. The first 24 aircraft will come from BAE Systems at Brough, East Yorkshire with the remaining 42 aircraft built under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd in Bangalore. The IAF aircraft are designated the Mk 115Y, an advanced version of the Hawk 100.
