The IAE V2500 turbofan had its first test run at East Hartford on December 12, 20 months after the design was started. Flight testing of the V2500 will begin in April 1987 with the engine mounted in the number 3 position on a Boeing 707. Pratt & Whitney Canada will modify the 707 which has been purchased from MEA for test purposes.
The Airbus A310-300 was certificated in France and Germany on December 5. It will enter service with Swissair on February 1 next year, powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4 engines. Certification of the A310 with the General Electric CF6 is expected in March and with the PW4000 in mid 1987.
