Ansett Sale Off
News Limited’s Managing Director and Ansett’s Executive Chairman, Ken Cowley, has confirmed News’ intention to retain its 50% shareholding in Ansett rather than selling out to Air New Zealand.
In a memo to Ansett staff Mr Cowley noted “I am pleased to advise that News Limited will be retaining its investment for the long term.” News and Air New Zealand had been negotiating the sale for the past six months, but the deal is believed to have fallen through over the uncertainty of further Air New Zealand international traffic rights from Australia, and the New Zealand airline’s desire to have a future option to buy TNT’s 50% Ansett share.
