Bottom Line

Boeing has posted a second quarter 1995 net loss of $US231m ($A312m) on revenue of $US7.57bn. The loss was due to a one-time pretax charge of $US600m ($A811m) for its recently offered special retirement programme. Without the charge, net earnings would have been $US254m ($A343m). Results for the same period in 1994 were sales of $US5.4bn and net profit of $US222m. British Airways has announced pretax profits for the three months to June 30 of £135m ($A293m), an improvement of 57% on the same period in 1994, while operating profit was £194m ($A421m) and profit after tax was £101m ($A220m). McDonnell Douglas has posted record second quarter net profits of $US169m ($A228m), while net profit for the first half of 1995 was $US328m ($A443m) on revenue of $US7.25bn ($A9.8bn).
