• One of the RAF’s oldest units, No 101 Squadron, was officially reformed on May 1 at RAF Brize Norton as the VC10 tanker unit. The squadron, which last operated Vulcan B Mk 2s, was disbanded in August 1982. Some of its crews participated in the “Black Buck” missions during the 1982 Falklands campaign.

• Pacific Southwest Airlines took delivery of its first British Aerospace 146 Series 200 at Hatfield on May 30 and expects to have received three by the end of June. They will be operated in a one class 100 passenger configuration on PSA’s high frequency network of routes in the Los Angeles-San Francisco area. The airline has orders for 20 more BAe 1468 with options on a further 25.
