Tupolev/Bravia Tu-204

Initial deliveries of the Tu-204 most probably will go to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, but the aeroplane’s appeal to operators in other parts of the world is likely to grow as its benefits are proved in service.

The Tupolev Tu-204 is the first Russian airliner to fly with Western engines. Similar in appearance and role to the Boeing 757, it was initially designed for Aeroflot as a 200 seat replacement for the trijet Tu-154. The aircraft actually made its first flight in 1989 with Russian Perm PS-90 engines, but the Tupolev design bureau was keen to develop a Tu-204 version with Western engines and avionics in order to widen the market appeal of the aircraft.
