Twenty six aircraft are listed in the New Allocation section this month therefore with four machines returning to the register and 23 deletions, the number of aircraft flying in Australia remains fairly steady with just over 9400 entries on the official register. The trend continues with the large majority of the new entries being single engined light aircraft, helicopters and balloons. Only one twin engined aircraft is shown this month, Swearingen UZW, which comes from Denmark and joins the growing Jetcraft fleet to be used on mining contracts around north Queensland.

The first three ex RAAF Airtrainers, recently sold at auction at Bankstown, have very quickly made it onto the register with ANH, TRF and the appropriately marked XAF shown this month. Bid- ding at the auction was a good deal higher than expected with aircraft fetching between $42,000 and $65,000. It is now believed that three machines will be exported to the USA and one to New Zealand with the other 32 aircraft remaining in Australia with private buyers. (Refer Warbirds July, this and next issues for additional CT-4 info. ) Another aircraft with a RAAF history is Tiger Moth JME. The Tiger started its life as A17-160 with 9 EFTS based at Cuderin WA before becoming AMQ during January 1946. It was out of service for a year between August 1951 and August 1952 and then less than twelve months later, on May 2 1953, it crashed at Maylands while being operated by the Royal Aero Club of WA. AMQ has been meticulously restored in an original De Havilland colour scheme of maroon fuselage and silver wings for Mark MacLachlan of Canberra by Ray Windred at Luskintyre who is fast becoming the finest restorer of Tiger Moths in Australia.
