Airtest – Citation VII

The Cessna Citation VII

The Cessna Aircraft Company used to have a product numbering system familiar to all fliers.

The 100 series were light piston singles (120, 150, 152, 172, etc, with names like Skyhawk, Commuter and Cardinal). Larger singles came into the 200 series, from 206 Skylane to the 208 Caravan. The 300 models were the small piston twin 310, 320 Skyknight, 337 Skymaster and 340, while the bigger twins went into the 400 sequence including 404 Titan, 411, 414 and 421 Golden Eagle.

All that simplicity disappeared with their business jets. The first little straight winged one followed the general pattern, becoming the Cessna 500 Citation. But then somebody who might have known better called the Cessna 550 the Citation as well, and then the 560 likewise. Oh, they gave them the differ- ent sub model numbers of Citation Í, Citation II and Citation V, but confusion ensued.
