Product Liability Changes to Revive US GA Industry?
Product Liability Changes Hold the Key To Rejuvenating GA Manufacturing Industry
Long decimated by the seemingly inane product liability laws that thrive within the US judicial system, the General Aviation manufacturing industry could at last be set for a new lease of life if a proposal presently before Congress is approved.
The latest in a long line of sensible industry proposals revolves around manufacturers of new aircraft and their components accepting full liability for the quality and advertised performance of their goods for a period of 15 years from date of manufacture. This would thus free Cessna, Piper, Beech and the surviving remnants of what is presently left of the once vast US GA industry to pursue the rerelease of some of their more viable models and to develop newer aircraft based on current generation technology, not the 1950s era equipment that so dates today’s US built lightplanes.
Cessna in fact has gone on record as stating that it would be happy to accept a 20 year limit and would definitely re-enter the light aircraft market if the latest proposal is approved by Congress.
