The US FM has acquired the last remaining prototype of the ill-fated all-composite LearFan. The FM is undertaking an examination of the airframe to study what effects ageing has on Its carbon fibre composite fuselage, the results of which may affect certification standards of similar such aircraft in the future. The twin engined/ single prop Learfan, the last design of Bill Lear before his death, was designed in the 197Os as an efficient small corporate aircraft, but was never certificated.
