Calling on remotely piloted aircraft operators to enter awards

written by Malavika Santhebennur | June 29, 2022

As the unmanned aerial system industry grows in Australia, we are urging all operators to enter in the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Professional of the Year category at the inaugural Australian Aviation Awards.

It is just one of 24 categories on offer in this year’s awards program, which will culminate with a gala dinner in Sydney on Thursday 1 September 2022. Nominations and submissions will close on 30 June 2022.

There have been remarkable advancements made in drone training in Australia and we want to hear from operators of remotely piloted aircrafts about how you’ve delivered outstanding work for your organisation or institution while strengthening the progress of Australia’s aviation and unmanned aerial system industry.

The award is open to any operator of remotely piloted aircraft of any career level and age who has demonstrated a commitment to excelling in the aviation industry and is on a rapid career trajectory.

You must demonstrate how your work has been central to the commercial success, performance or development of your organisation.

A strong submission will detail the outstanding work you have performed that demonstrates excellence and how it has benefitted your organisation and institution between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021.

You must also outline the key challenges you encountered in completing your work and how you successfully overcame these hurdles.

It is critical to describe your contribution to the wider innovation, sustainability, growth, or financial performance of your specific department, program, institution, and/or the company as a whole, with reference to specific data where relevant.

Furthermore, highlighting how you have contributed to your profession more widely or to the aviation industry outside of the specific work outlined above, as well as your vision for remote operations in the future and how that could contribute to a stronger Australian aviation workforce would elevate your submission.

To strengthen your entry, provide a maximum of four relevant supporting documents for the judges’ consideration including financial or business metrics, images, statistics, transcripts, media coverage, accolades, testimonials or recommendations/references, and any other relevant information.

In addition to the supporting documents, we also encourage entrants to submit an optional short video up to 30 seconds long answering the question: “What does business success mean to you?”

To be eligible for this award, the nominee must have held a current remote pilot licence (RePL) or remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate (ReOC) since 1 July 2020.

All Australian-based remotely piloted aircraft operators working in the industry are encouraged to participate.

The nominee must be employed in an Australian business, organisation or institution (or a division of a global business that is registered to trade in Australia) that has a focus on drone training, remote operations or services.

To enter the awards, visit the website below to register, download the category criteria, follow the criteria, and submit an entry. Finally, simply save and confirm your submission.

The first-ever Australian Aviation Awards also include categories for female leaders, aviation support businesses, pilots, engineers, and rotary services, while company categories include the airport and airline of the year.

The awards are peer-reviewed and judged by a respected and trusted panel.

The gala event is set to take place in-person on Thursday 1 September2022 at 7pm at The Star in Sydney.

It will provide professionals with the opportunity to network with their peers and showcase their successes to the industry.

Nominations and submissions will close on 30 June 2022.
