Submissions open for first-ever Australian Aviation Awards

written by Malavika Santhebennur | March 3, 2022

Australian Aviation’s first print magazine hit the newsstands back in September 1977, but today, we can announce a brilliant new milestone in our history.

As our industry finally wakes from its COVID hibernation, we’re inviting the sector to come together to celebrate its achievements at our first-ever Australian Aviation Awards

There are categories for both individuals and companies, and the program culminates in a black-tie gala dinner in Sydney on 25 August.

The event is supported by our principal partner, the University of New South Wales.

Today, we’re offering you the opportunity to enter directly or nominate a worthy person or organisation to submit.

Individual categories include those for pilots, engineers, drones and rotary services, while our company categories include the prestigious airport and airline of the year.

See the full list here but be quick: submissions close on 30 June.

Dr. Brett Molesworth, head of school, UNSW Aviation 2022, said the School of Aviation is proud to be the leading partner of the inaugural awards.

“These awards are the first national awards to recognise, promote and encourage excellence across the entire aviation industry,” he said.

“Given the challenges that the aviation industry has had to weather for the past few years and looking ahead, we believe the awards will provide a positive synergy to an industry that is vital to our economy, our humanity and our future.

“We trust that these awards will become the benchmark for excellence, recognising the outstanding achievements and dedication of professionals who are securing the aviation industry for the future.

“UNSW Aviation has always been committed to the high standards essential for the future of aviation. For over 40 years, Australian Aviation Magazine has had a trusting and enduring relationship with the aviation industry.

“We are honoured to be partnering with them for this event, which will bring people from all sectors of the industry around the country together in a great celebration of aviation.”

Australian Aviation’s Adam Thorn said the industry’s ability to survive the pandemic was a testament to so many people’s extraordinary passion and talent.

“As we start to put COVID behind us, the Australian Aviation Awards will allow us to acknowledge the achievements of our very best people, as well as those recognising businesses of all sizes,” Thorn said.

“I would encourage everyone to enter and know the evening itself will be a long-overdue chance for us to get together in person and celebrate.”

The gala event will be held in person on Thursday, 25 August 2022 at 7pm at Australian Turf Club, Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney and will present an opportunity for professionals to showcase their achievements.

The awards are peer-reviewed and judged by a well-regarded and trusted panel.
