Engineers: Advance and be recognised at our awards!

The award is just one of 24 individual and company categories included in the Australian Aviation Awards program (proudly sponsored by principal partner the University of New South Wales), which aims to recognise the hard work and stellar achievements of the Australian aviation industry during what has been a tumultuous and challenging period of significant disruption during the COVID-19 crisis.

The awards program will culminate in a black-tie gala dinner on Thursday, 25 August 2022 in Sydney.

The Engineering Professional of the Year award recognises the engineer or technician who has delivered outstanding work for their community, organisation, or institution while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s aviation industry through their active participation.

It is open to any qualified aerospace engineer or technician at any career level and at any age, who has demonstrated a commitment to excelling in the aviation industry, and is on a rapid career trajectory, with their contributions central to commercial success, growth, or development of their organisation, industry safety, or innovation.

The awards are peer-reviewed and judged by a well-regarded and trusted panel.

A strong submission will include details on the outstanding work that demonstrates excellence in the applicant’s specific area of expertise and how it has benefited their organisation or institution.

Applicants must also outline the key challenges they encountered while completing this work and how they successfully overcame them, as well as the key benefits or utility of the work.

Furthermore, submissions must outline their contribution to the wider innovation, sustainability, growth, or financial performance of their specific department, program, institution, and/or company as a whole, with reference to specific data where relevant.

Moreover, it is crucial for applicants in this category to detail their vision for engineering professionals in the aerospace industry, and how that will contribute to a stronger Australian workforce and economy.

To bolster their applications, candidates are encouraged to include a maximum of four supporting documents to strengthen their entry for the judges’ consideration. This could include financial or business metrics, images, statistics, transcripts, media coverage, accolades, testimonials or recommendations/references and other relevant information.

In addition, entrants could submit an optional short video up to 30 seconds long answering the question: “What does business success mean to you?”

All engineering professionals working in the industry across areas such as aerodynamics, design, aircraft maintenance, navigation systems, avionics, software, mechanical, structural, military, and other aviation-related disciplines are urged to participate in the inaugural awards program.

To be eligible for this award, entrants must own or be employed in an Australian business, organisation, or institution (or a division of a global business that is registered to trade in Australia), that has a focus on supporting the Australian aviation economy.

The period of assessment for applicants is 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021.

The Australian Aviation Awards includes a range of other individual and group awards for airlines, airports, aviators, pilots, rotary businesses, industry associations, and female aviation leaders.
