Calling on all pilots to enter Australian Aviation Awards

written by Malavika Santhebennur | April 28, 2022

As international borders reopen and passengers once again take to the skies, we are inviting all visionary commercial pilots to submit in the Commercial Pilot of the Year category at the Australian Aviation Awards.

Proudly sponsored by principal partner the University of New South Wales, the awards program includes 24 categories that reward the achievements of the Australian aviation industry at a gala dinner on Thursday, 25 August 2022 in Sydney.

The Commercial Pilot of the Year award recognises the commercial or air transport pilot who has delivered outstanding results for their organisation or institution while boosting Australia’s aviation industry, airworthiness, and safety capabilities through their participation in and support of the sector over the assessment period between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021.

It is open to any commercial or air transport pilot at any career level and age, who has demonstrated commitment to excelling in the aviation industry and is on a rapid upward trajectory in their career. They must demonstrate that their endeavours have been central to commercial success, performance, or development of their organisation.

In their submissions, candidates must answer questions detailing how their outstanding work has benefited their organisation, what challenges they encountered along the way and how they overcame them.

They must also outline their contributions to the wider innovation, sustainability, growth, or financial performance of their specific department, program, institution, and/or company as a whole, and provide relevant data.

Pilots are also being asked to detail their vision for their peers in the future of aviation industry and how that could contribute to a stronger workforce.

In addition, pilots must describe how they have contributed to the profession outside of the specific work outlined in their previous answers.

To strengthen your submissions, ensure that you include and refer to any attached supporting material (a maximum of four documents) for the judges’ consideration, including financial or business metrics, statistics, images, transcripts, accolades, testimonials or recommendations/references, and any other relevant documentation.

Alongside this, we urge candidates to submit an optional short video up to 30 seconds long answering the question: “What does business success mean to you?”

To be eligible for this award, the nominee must have held a current CPL or ATPL since 1 January 2021, and be employed in an Australian business, organisation, or institution (or a division of a global business that is registered to trade in Australia) that focuses on passenger or goods movements.

The first-ever Australian Aviation Awards also include categories for airlines, airports, engineers, women in aviation, rotary services, and start-ups.
