Consider this. Tourism Australia statistics show that in 2017 there were 54 per cent more visitor arrivals to Australia from Singapore (434,400) compared with Hong Kong (282,100).

Here are a couple of more numbers to mull over. Figures from aviation thinktank CAPA – Centre for Aviation show there are currently 243 flights a week between Australia and Singapore, almost double the 123 scheduled nonstop Australia-Hong Kong services a week. (This includes freighter services.)
