Counting the cost
A CPL doesn’t come cheaply
The cost of flight training has never been cheap. From the days of the Wright Brothers up to today learning to fly has always been expensive so that most student pilots have to sacrifice something to get enough money together to afford flying lessons.
Today a budding pilot needs to put aside around $14,000 to afford flight training for the Recreational Pilot’s Licence (RPL), and then another $10,000 for the full private pilot’s licence (PPL). The commercial pilot’s licence (CPL) typically requires something close to $100,000 to get a CPL with 200 hours that includes multi-engine and instrument ratings.
