Sharp Airlines has announced an expansion of its direct Launceston-King Island services with non-stop flights now operating every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, departing Launceston at 7:00am and arriving on King Island at 8:00am.
The direct flights are expected to reduce travel time between Launceston and King Island from approximately 95 minutes to just 55 minutes, providing faster and more convenient access for residents, visitors, businesses and freight customers.

Sharp Airlines chief executive officer Alistair Dorward said the expanded services demonstrate the airline’s commitment to continually improving regional connectivity.
“The introduction of additional direct services is another important step in strengthening the Bass Strait network. We’re not simply adding flights, we’re creating a more efficient network that benefits our passengers, freight customers, local businesses and the communities we serve,” Mr Dorward said.
“The additional capacity, lower fares and improved freight capability all contribute to a more sustainable operation, ensuring we can continue delivering reliable regional air services well into the future.”
The expanded schedule builds on the success of the direct services introduced earlier this year and represents another important milestone in strengthening Tasmania’s regional aviation network.
The expansion also increases overall capacity across the Bass Strait network. With King Island passengers now travelling on dedicated direct flights, seats previously occupied by through-passengers on the Burnie routing are freed up, effectively doubling passenger capacity between Burnie and King Island on the four direct-service days while maintaining strong connectivity across the broader network.
The expanded direct schedule is designed to deliver a range of benefits across Tasmania and King Island with four days each week of fast, direct access between Launceston and King Island. Increased passenger capacity across the Bass Strait network and improved freight capability through dedicated direct services, supporting the reliable movement of mail and freight under Sharp Airlines’ Australia Post contract.
Greater operational efficiency, helping build a more sustainable and economically viable regional air network as well as enhanced access for business travellers, healthcare appointments, education and tourism.
The privately owned aviation operates a fleet of 18 Metroliner aircraft, carrying over 100,000 passengers and more than two million kilograms of freight per annum, with bases in Adelaide, Brisbane, Launceston, Melbourne and Perth.
