Flight school crash devastation as 2 young pilots killed

​The Australian aviation industry has tragically lost two pilots after a training aircraft crashed into a flight school hangar shortly after takeoff at Parafield Airport in Adelaide on Wednesday, 29 April. The plane, registration VH-YQP, was owned and operated by Parafield-based flight training facility Flight Training Adelaide. The plane took off shortly after 2pm, and had been airborne for just a few moments when it rolled sharply to the left, and appeared to nosedive into the facility’s hangar.

​Both the 29-year-old instructor pilot and the 24-year-old student pilot were unfortunately killed in the incident. The impact resulted in a massive fire that rendered the pilots’ initial rescue attempts by emergency service crews impossible and engulfed the hangar and surrounding buildings. Ten employees and students who were situated in and around the hangar were rescued by emergency services and brought to the local hospital for treatment, including a 55-year-old man who was treated with life-threatening injuries, and two others with serious injuries.
