The Canberra-based firm, which hopes to launch a space-based air traffic control system, will collaborate with institutions such as RMIT, Curtin and UNSW on the positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) system.
The carrier currently flies up to six times a week between Sydney and Johannesburg using its 485-capacity A380s, in what is one of its most popular services.
The program aims to raise the profile of female professionals and has already delivered media training to 270 people since its launch in 2017. It is backed by Defence, the Department of Science, and Google, and is overseen by Science & Technology Australia.
N95NA, or NASA5, touched down in Brisbane on Monday before flying out to Perth on Tuesday ahead of the launch on 11 January. The aircraft will watch the re-entry of the SpaceX Starship, which is expected to splash down off the coast of Western Australia.
Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore will now not come home until “no earlier than late March 2025”, back from February, to allow for more “complete processing” for a new SpaceX Dragon capsule.
Hosted in support with principal partner Space Centre Australia, the two-day event will feature two main stages with more than 70 senior industry figures talking about the space and defence sectors.
