The lounge will be located on the terminal’s mezzanine level, and will offer “expansive views across the airfield to the Blue Mountains”.

“We’re creating a premium airport experience that is distinctly Western Sydney. The Rayleigh Lounge will give travellers a welcoming place to dine, work or unwind before their flight, with thoughtful design, top-tier hospitality and views across the World-Heritage listed Blue Mountains,” said WSI CEO Simon Hickey.

“It will open ahead of the holiday period, giving our international travellers an outstanding start to their journey from Western Sydney to the world.

“As more airlines join WSI and more passengers choose to fly from Western Sydney, The Rayleigh Lounge will grow with them. That is how we have designed the entire airport: ready for today and built to grow with Sydney for generations to come.”

Designed by COX Architecture, the lounge will include dedicated lounge and dining areas, a feature bar, and an open kitchen, as well as wi-fi, integrated charging, and three private showers.

According to COX Architecture partner Brooke Lloyd, different spaces within the lounge will “support the needs of solo travellers, families and groups”, and the space has been designed “from the outside in”.

“In the lounge, passengers can take in the full depth of the region, beyond the airfield to the Cumberland Plain and the Blue Mountains. We built the colour palette around this view, specifically, the gradient from the bush into the blue haze that gives the Rayleigh its name,” she said.

“Our design of the lounge is a natural extension of the terminal concept design created jointly with ZHA, where the warm, earthy palette comes from the surrounding landscape. From the moment passengers walk in, we want them to see and feel that they’re in Western Sydney.”

Passenger flights at WSI will commence on 25 October with Jetstar services to the Gold Coast and Melbourne, followed by Air New Zealand flights to Auckland the next day.
