Lyall Ellers was given a framed image of a 100 Squadron Boomerang with a message of congratulations from the current commanding officer of the squadron, Jason Easthope.
The aircraft were already due to be withdrawn in December next year but will now remain grounded because an investigation into the crash that killed four will continue well into 2024.

The approved acquisition includes a fourth Triton and anti-submarine warfare, maritime strike and intelligence collection enhancements for Australia’s fleet of 14 Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft with an estimated combined value over $1.5 billion.
Exercise Elang AUSINDO 23 will see 150 RAAF personnel training alongside 160 of their Indonesian counterparts, planning and undertaking offensive and defensive counter air missions, basic fighter and air combat manoeuvres, as well as air-to-air refuelling with a RAAF KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport.
The move is hugely significant for Australia, with the first delivery of the uncrewed aircraft set for next year and an inaugural flight imminent.
