No. 92 Wing’s Poseidons, supported by 11 and 12 Squadrons, are taking part in Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026, based out of Hawaii. This is the 30th iteration of the exercise, and Australia has participated in every one since its inception.
As part of Exercise Possum Guns, weapons systems integrated into the Apache aircraft, such as a 30-millimetre gun and Hellfire missiles, were operationally tested in what Defence said is a “significant milestone”.
More than 100 aircraft and around 2,500 personnel from the RAAF and 20 other nations will take part in training activities and exercises in the skies over Australia’s north over the next three weeks from 20 July to 7 August.
Held at the National Convention Centre in the nation’s capital, the summit set out to support defence industry leaders, SMEs, government and defence representatives, and primes to explore the changing and dynamic nature of the defence landscape.

Four Philippine Air Force (PAF) FA-50PH Golden Eagles arrived at RAAF Base Darwin last week, followed by Thai F-16B fighters, Korean fighters and tankers, and a number of aircraft from Singapore. It comes ahead of the exercise’s commencement early next week.
