The Royal Australian Air Force has revealed it will return to Western Australia for an air show in 2027, for the first time in 15 years.

Scheduled for Sunday, 12 September 2027, the 2027 RAAF Air Show will take place at Langley Park in the Perth CBD, with static displays of aircraft and military equipment, as well as RAAF personnel on hand to answer questions.

The free event will take place between 10am and 6pm, with aerial displays scheduled for between 2pm and 5pm. The best vantage points for viewing aerial displays include Langley Park, the Swan River foreshore and King’s Park.

Minister for Defence Personnel, the Hon Matt Keogh MP, said the 2027 RAAF Air Show will be “unforgettable”.

“With our stunning Swan River as backdrop, crowds will have a fantastic opportunity to experience a unique spectacle of sights and sounds up close, thanks to the incredible skills of our Royal Australian Air Force aviators and Australian Defence Force personnel,” he said.

Keogh said the air show provides an opportunity to recognise the role that RAAF Base Pearce plays in the local economy.

“Pearce is the only permanently operational RAAF Base in the West, and while its primary role is to host our future pilots and support international partners, it plays a significant logistics role and is one of the busiest RAAF bases in the country,” he said.

The last major RAAF Air Show took place at RAAF Base Richmond to mark the airbase’s 100-year anniversary.

The event attracted around 80,000 people and featured both static and aerial displays such as the F-35A Lightning II, F/A-18F Super Hornet, E-7A Wedgetail, P-8 Poseidon, and No. 100 Squadron’s heritage aircraft.

“The community sees our achievements in the news, watches our work on social media, but seldom has that opportunity to engage and experience with Defence firsthand,” said Wing Commander Andrew Burke, Senior Australian Defence Force Officer at RAAF Base Richmond and Commanding Officer No. 22 Squadron, at the time.

“The air show allows us to welcome our community through the gates and into our workplace, thank them for their support, answer their questions about our role and showcase our capability.

“As a commanding officer and Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, it’s certainly the rarest of privileges to host our local community on the base and celebrate a centenary air show with them.”

RAAF Richmond, opened in June 1925, is the oldest Air Force base in NSW, and second oldest in Australia after Point Cook in Victoria. According to WGCDR Burke, the base has a “unique and close relationship” with its local community.

“Successive generations of the Hawkesbury community have supported the base for a hundred years, and longer still when you consider the local council campaigned to bring aviation to Richmond following the First World War,” he said.

“For decades, aviators have returned to RAAF Base Richmond from conflicts and disasters in our region and across the world and felt welcomed by a community who supported them and their families.”
