Sydney Airport’s domestic passenger traffic doubled in July, due to three-weeks when there was unrestricted travel between NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
Dutton added it was “childish” that the Queensland Premier made the decision without first informing her NSW counterpart Gladys Berejiklian.
The airline operates Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to regional Queensland and New South Wales, with a fleet of Saab 340B Plus and Metro 23 aircraft.
Rex has reportedly made moves to secure up to 10 Boeing 737s off the back of Virgin Australia’s restructuring as it prepares to expand its service.
The group said its offer would provide “an immediate better return” and has the backing of major financial institutions such as UBS, Credit Suisse, and Deutsche Bank.
The airline says there is some available on flights to Sydney from early September, and Australian Aviation has seen that fares are on sale from just $545.
