The Australian Federation of Air Pilots, which last week announced work stoppages would continue for six days, voted for an extra day of industrial action to start a minute past midnight on Thursday 22 February. More than 90 per cent of Network pilots are members of AFAP.
Australian Federation of Air Pilots members at Network, which operates Qantas FIFO and scheduled QantasLink services in WA, have begun six rolling 24-hour work stoppages from Wednesday to Monday, adding a further three days to already-planned industrial action.
The Flying Kangaroo said in response it was “reviewing schedules and planning contingencies” to minimise disruption to passengers.
The report, commissioned by the ACTU, stated bluntly that “the duopoly in the aviation sector in Australia is dominated by Qantas and there is price gouging by Qantas”, and called for “unnecessary restrictions on competition” in domestic and international aviation to be removed.
Adam Marshall, Nationals member for Northern Tablelands, accused Rex of breaking a “public commitment” to return to Armidale next month after the airline announced that services between Sydney and the northern NSW city would not resume until at least October.
Allan Fels also recommended airport prices be formally regulated and the removal of restrictions on domestic and international aviation.
