Flight JQ88 to Denpasar took off shortly after 10:15am on Tuesday aboard the A321neo LR VH-OYW, with all four of Newcastle’s weekly Bali services now continuing on to Changi Airport. Jetstar has increased from three to four Newcastle-Bali flights per week after launching the route last year.
In its latest Domestic Airline Competition report, the consumer watchdog has noted “significant disruption to international air travel to Europe in particular” from the Iran war, and says it is “closely monitoring” Australia’s airline industry as the situation unfolds.
The inaugural JQ49 service to Denpasar took off from Avalon at 6:30pm on 23 March aboard A321neo LR VH-OFS, with five flights to operate per week. It comes ahead of the return of direct Avalon-Adelaide services on Thursday, as well as an expansion of Avalon-Brisbane capacity.
The Flying Kangaroo saw 82 per cent of flights arrive on time and 83.9 per cent depart on time, compared to 79.7 per cent on-time arrivals and 81.6 per cent on-time departures for Virgin; however, only 1.4 per cent of VA services were cancelled, compared to 2.8 per cent of QF flights.
The inaugural flight QZ410 arrived in Melbourne at 5:22am on Saturday morning aboard the A320-200 PK-AZV. AirAsia, which will fly daily between Melbourne and Denpasar, is the sixth airline on the route alongside Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Garuda Indonesia, and Batik Air Malaysia.
The carrier is set to increase domestic business and economy fares by around five per cent, Australian Aviation understands, with the current spot price of fuel hitting around double what it was at the same time last month as the Middle East conflict continues.
