The planemaker is pouring more than US$1 billion into the project, which will include a new final assembly building, parts preparation area facility, vertical fin paint facility, flight line stalls, and additions to the interior components manufacturing facilities.

China’s second-largest carrier will fly three times per week return from Shanghai to Adelaide starting in mid-2026 using wide-body aircraft. It is the first non-stop connection between the world’s third-largest city and South Australia.

The low-cost carrier will launch new flights from Avalon to Bali next March, along with restoring its former Avalon–Adelaide service and rolling out more capacity to Brisbane. It is the first time international flights will have operated from Avalon since early 2020.

The first images have been released of the specially constructed A350-1000ULR, which is slated for delivery in late 2026 ahead of the launch of non-stop flights from the east coast to London and New York in 2027.
