Product Test — Torii Tours 1995 Oshkosh Tour

Well, we’ve done the Pilgrimage, I’ve been to Oshkosh! Before going on, I should perhaps make it clear that although I regularly write for Australian Aviation, which is a co-sponsor together with Torii Tours of the annual Oshkosh/US Aviation Museum tour, I paid my own way.

The reason I opted for the Torii Tours package was simply because it seemed to offer a good selection of aviation related museums and other attractions, in addition to Oshkosh, without me having to worry about the hassles of travel (our guide, fellow Australian Aviation writer Dave Prossor attended to all that). In addition it is my view that if you are going to pay the fare and endure the flight to and from the States to visit Oshkosh, then it makes good sense to get value for money by combining it with a tour of some of the best aviation museums in the world.

Now a relaxing holiday it is not! It is 26 days of serious aviation viewing which requires a degree of dedication and stamina, particularly in our case as the USA was suffering somewhat unusually hot weather. I would caution aviation buffs contemplating taking the trip next year that if they are serious addicts, they might experience the same problems chocoholics suffer when let loose in a chocolate factory. There is so much to see that at times you wonder whether you will be able to take it all in. However, before you take me too seriously, there are breaks for sightseeing and recovery which are just about right to get you ready for the next round of aeronauticalania.
