The loss of a fourth Agusta (Siai Marchetti) S.211 jet trainer has resulted in the fleet's grounding by the Philippine defence ministry. Three previous crashes have been attributed to pilot error. Essendon Threatened Again:

The future of Melbourne’s Essendon airport is under threat yet again following the release of a development plan by the Essendon City Council. The Council sees the airport site and adjoining land being turned into a residential area with 3000 homes and a business park which would be “the economic heart of Melbourne’s north and west”. Those who support the idea point to the airport’s recent dismal financial performance, including a loss of $5. 2m in 1991-92. But the Council faces several obstacles before its plan can proceed, including the necessity for the Federal Airports Corporation to close Essendon and sell off the land, and for the Federal Government its 1991 commitment to retain the airport as part of the recommendations contained in the Port Philip Region Airport and Airspace Study. That study suggested that PointCook might be an alternative to Essendon, but at least two years would be required for relocation.
