Independent airport lounge operator Plaza Premium Group (PPG) will invest $20 million in its Australian operations, including new domestic lounges in Sydney and Cairns.
The new 113-seat, 545-square metre Sydney domestic lounge at Terminal 2 will open in November, while the Plaza Premium Lounge will take over the former Virgin Australia lounge space in Cairns, opening in 2027. PPG is also set to upgrade its Brisbane international lounge.

“A decade ago, we introduced our independent lounge concept to Australia in Brisbane with a vision to make premium airport hospitality accessible to travellers needing space away from the terminal,” said Mei Mei Song, chief transformation officer at Plaza Premium Group.
“Australia has become one of our most vital growth markets globally, and this $20 million investment reaffirms our long-term commitment to the region as we continue to redefine the travel experience across major Asia-Pacific transit hubs.”
Central to the announcement is the new Sydney T2 lounge, which will be located airside and cater to the 25 million annual passengers that pass through the terminal dominated by Virgin Australia and Jetstar and allow paid entry to travellers.
Cyrus Wong, general manager, Oceania at Plaza Premium Group, said PPG’s aim has been to “democratise” lounge access.
“If you are flying out of Sydney’s domestic terminal without airline status, options prior to boarding have traditionally been limited. A decade after entering Australia, we are proud to launch our biggest domestic project yet,” he said.
“Whether it is a business traveller needing a quiet hour to work, a family heading on holiday, or a solo traveller wanting a comfortable space to relax, we are making a premium airport experience a normal, easy part of domestic travel.”
PPG’s Sydney T2 lounge comes as the airport continues redevelopments of the terminal, with Mark Zaouk, group executive commercial at Sydney Airport, saying it will give travellers “greater flexibility and convenience”.
“The arrival of Plaza Premium Lounge marks another exciting milestone in the transformation of T2, introducing our first independent, non-airline lounge in the domestic terminals, open to all passengers regardless of airline or ticket class.
“It’s giving passengers more choice in how they experience the airport and forms part of our broader transformation of the domestic precinct, with new retail, dining and passenger experiences creating a more contemporary T2.”
PPG opened its first domestic lounge in Australia, at Adelaide Airport, last year, having already established international lounges in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
