Taa Boeing 727-100 Fleet Update
Australian Airlines’ recent withdrawal from operation of the Boeing 727 after some 28 years service has generated special interest in the type and so in this issue of “Traffic’ we look at what has become of the 727-76 fleet.
In total, Trans-Australia Airlines ordered and operated six 727-76 aircraft (VH-TJA through VH-TJF) between 10/64 and 02/80. The first passenger service operated by the type was with VH-TJA on 02/11/64 as TN534 from Melbourne to Sydney while the last was on 29/01/80 with VH-TJB on TN2806 from Launceston to Melbourne. In this time the TAA 727-76 fleet flew some 222,366 hours, made 168,644 flights and carried close to 11. 5 million passengers.
