With the firming of the MD-12 design (refer p7 June 92 AA) McDonnell Douglas have become the first aircraft manufacturer to offer a serious alternative to the Boeing 747. The four-engined, twin deck design will also give MDC a basis for a future stretch able to compete with the 600 seat plus designs currently being mooted by Airbus and Boeing. (MDC)

A319 Launched:
The Airbus A319, a 130 passenger shortened derivative of the A320 airliner, has been “market launched” by its manufacturer.
Launch customers are now being sought for the aircraft, which will be assembled in Germany by Deutsche Airbus alongside the forthcoming stretched A321. The A320 is assembled by Aerospatiale at Toulouse.
