Update – Boeing 737-300

The recently announced Boeing 737-300 is a longer-bodied version of the popular 737 twinjets, designed to burn less fuel per passenger and provide reduced noise levels for the short-haul markets of 1985 and beyond.

The visible differences from the standard 737-200 are an eight-foot, eight-inch (2. 6m) longer body and new, larger advanced technology engines mounted forward of the wing on struts. Current 737 engines are tucked up directly under the wing. The new -300 also has six feet of span added to the horizontal tail and small wing-tip extensions with mass balance probes to ensure the heavier plane rides smoothly.
