A Tiger by the tail
Virgin Australia bulks up
Virgin Australia’s plans to be a viable and relevant competitor to Qantas took another giant step forward last month with the announcement of three major initiatives to accelerate the growth of the business, diversify its earnings and increase competition in Australia.
The transactions led off with Singapore Airlines taking a 10 per cent interest in Virgin Australia Holdings followed by a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire 60 per cent of the existing shares in Tiger Australia from Tiger Airways and entering an in-principle agreement with Skywest Airlines to acquire 100 per cent of its business.
