Jetstar, Tiger draw battlelines in Sydney and Singapore
The low cost battle for dominance of the Australian and Asian markets between Tiger Airways and Jetstar intensified with two key moves announced in early April.
Firstly, Qantas announced on April 2 that it was taking greater control of Singapore based Jetstar Asia in partnership with Singaporean company Westbrook Investments, with the two companies taking over Jetstar Asia and Valuair parent company Orangestar Investment Holdings through the appropriately named Newstar Investment Holdings Pte Ltd.
