Chief of the German Air Force, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann, has visited German fighter pilots being trained in Australia.
Lieutenant General Neumann is touring Australia as part of Exercise Pitch Black 26 held in the Northern Territory this month.

The Australian government previously signed an agreement to train pilots from the German Air Force in 2025. At that time, the letter of intent was signed by Chief of Air Force Australia Air Marshal Stephen Chappell and Chief of the German Air Force Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz.
Germany fighter pilots are trained to meet NATO standards at No 2 Flying Training School at RAAF Pearce in Western Australia.
“We can have the documents, procedures and briefings, but at the end of the day it’s the personal relationship between our teams that is important,” Lieutenant General Neumann said.
“We are divided by geography but we are united by values and common standards. This proves we can work and fight together when if we have to.”
Several German personnel are reportedly undergoing jet pilot training at this time, according to German Embassy Australia.
“The Chief of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann, visited our pilot trainees in Perth, Australia. During his visit, he gained first-hand insight into our cooperation with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), where several of our personnel are currently undergoing jet pilot training,” according to a public statement from the Embassy.
“This cooperation is the result of many years of partnership and close friendship between Germany and Australia. At the same time, it expands our training and qualification opportunities. Alongside the United States, Australia now serves as another strong partner and training location for the German Air Force.”
