MISSING THE BOAT? The deadline for RAAF participation in the SDD phase of BAMS is fast approaching. Pictured is one of two development US Navy RQ-4A Block 10s. (Northrop Grumman)
Clock ticking on RAAF BAMS participation
With Lockheed Martin’s appeal against Northrop Grumman winning the US Navy’s Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) program dismissed, NG is stepping up its efforts to re-state its case for the RQ-4N Global Hawk for the RAAF.
The US Navy’s RQ-4N is Northrop Grumman’s contender for or the ADF’s Project Air 7000 Phase 1 to replace part of the RAAF’s AP-3C Orion fleet with a long endurance UAV from late next decade. The N is based on the USAF RQ-4B Block 30 airframe which incorporates optical, radar based, and signals intelligence payloads.
