Army to Get Ch-47f Chinooks
the Former Federal Government Confirmed During the Election Campaign That the Army Will Order Three Ch-47f Chinooks to Complement the Six Ch-47ds Currently in Service.
Then Defence Minister Dr Brendan Nelson Said “initial Approval” Had Been Granted for the Acquisition Prior to the Government Entering Caretaker Mode in the Lead Up to the Election, and That the Acquisition Will Have “opportunities for Australian Companies to Provide Maintenance Support for the New Helicopters, to Construct New $33 Million Storage Hangars and to Assist With Developing and Implementing Any Australian-unique Modifications That May Be Required. ” It Has Not Been Announced Whether the Existing D Models Will Be Put Through the Ch-47f Remanufacturing Program, but It is Thought That Once the First Three F Models Arrive in 2011, the D Models Will Then Go Through This Process Three at a Time in Order to Provide a Common Fleet.
