Ukrainian ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, made the comments on the sidelines of the space industry event held at Hyatt Regency Sydney on Thursday, 18 June.
The contracts will see General Atomics produce the YFQ-42A and Anduril manufacture the YFQ-44A, creating the first operational fleet of autonomous combat aircraft designed to fly alongside crewed fighters as part of a next-generation “human-machine team”.
Australia placed first in the tournament's racing section, ahead of international teams from the UK, which came in second, and the US, which came in third. In addition, an Australian Army drone pilot achieved the fastest time at the drone racing series.
As part of this expansion, Boeing revealed a technology roadmap that substantially increases the uncrewed aerial system’s range, payload flexibility and interoperability for the Royal Australian Air Force and allied customers.
Boresight commenced trading on Wednesday, with the aerial target drone company listing at a $0.20 price and a pre-raise market cap of just under $34 million. The Canberra-based company focuses on designing and manufacturing drones that can be deliberately shot down for counter-UAS training.
The contract has an initial value of $19.3 million, with an additional $5.6 million in options of the end user over a five-year period, according to a statement published on 2 June, and is for the supply of mobile and fixed site counter-drone solutions, comprising hardware, subscriptions, warranties and services.
